EL NUEVO DIARIO, SANTO DOMINGO – The Biodiversity in Productive Landscapes Project of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources held meetings with community representatives, government sector representatives, technicians, and municipal officials. During these meetings, thematic tables for water, tourism, and biodiversity with a landscape approach were established in the municipalities of Neyba and La Descubierta in the Bahoruco province.
The development of activities to create these thematic tables was supported and accompanied by Adela Matos, a technical analyst from the Regional Planning Office of the Vice Ministry of Land Use Planning at the Ministry of Economy, Planning, and Development (MEPyD). Matos introduced the composition, objectives, and scope of the thematic tables as a strategy for addressing common territorial issues. Representatives from the BPP project, Santo González, and Michael Reyes, were also present.
The thematic tables in Neyba selected Yssa Miguel Lama, a member of the Development Council and president of the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Bahoruco, as the coordinator, and Yocasta Pachano from the Palo Verde Youth Group as the secretary. In La Descubierta, the coordinator and secretary were Guillermo Cuevas from CIEPO and Adonis Ferrera from the municipality.
Several public and private institutions are represented in these thematic tables, including the Development Councils and the municipalities of both Neyba and La Descubierta, INDRHI (National Institute of Hydraulic Resources Development), INAPA (National Institute of Potable Water and Sewage), the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, CIEPO, the Chamber of Commerce and Production of Bahoruco, the Palo Verde Youth Group, UASD (Autonomous University of Santo Domingo), UAPA (Popular Autonomous University of the American Institute), Neighborhood Associations, Irrigation Boards, foundations, and educational centers in Neyba and La Descubierta municipalities, among others.
