Yamasá Mayor’s Office assumes the challenge of localizing SDGs in its municipal management

The members of the SDG Commission of the Yamasá City Council, created by resolution of the Council through the Biodiversidad en Paisajes Productivos Project -BPP-, shared their experience in the application of the knowledge and tools acquired in the capacity building process on SDGs and the 2030 Agenda. During “The 2030 Agenda as an opportunity to mainstream development policies” presentation, the members of the Commission highlighted, among other aspects, the actions of the Municipal Development Plan that are being implemented in the municipality of Yamasá related to each corresponding SDG. This activity was conducted on May 4, 2023, in the Yamasá City Council.

This process of structure formation and construction of local capacities promoted by the BPP with the support of FEDOMU and the FAMSI Agency, included the participation of the authorities of the Yamasá city hall, community organizations and other sectors of the municipality.

With the aim of making the integration of the SDGs into the vision and planning for territorial development possible, the BPP project has created Monitoring Commissions for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the target municipalities, as structures through which evaluates the implementation of public policies and private initiatives and their impact on the SDGs in those exact territories. These commissions were created by resolution of the Aldermen’s Councils of the mayors’ offices.

Likewise, the implementation of the Biodiversity in Productive Landscapes project -BPP- is aligned with the following SDG Sustainable Development Goals:

  • End of poverty
  • Gender equality
  • Clean water and sanitation
  • Sustainable cities and communities
  • Life and terrestrial ecosystem
